Six stories.

Two and a half years ago, I suffered a heart attack that put me out of action momentarily.

It very nearly ended my life.

In a strange way, it also started it.

When something like that happens, your perspective changes. All those things you’re going to do one day suddenly feel a little more urgent.

I’d always wanted to write. I’d always had stories in my head and things I wanted to create, but there was always work, responsibilities, life… always a reason to leave it until later.

The problem is, later isn’t promised.

So I started writing.

And today I realised that I’ve now written six stories.

Six stories that wouldn’t exist if I’d kept waiting for the “right time”.

Some are already out there in the world. Some are still to come. And I’m nowhere near finished yet.

I’m not posting this for sympathy. I’m posting it because somewhere out there, somebody is probably doing exactly what I used to do — putting off something they desperately want to do because one day they’ll have the time.

Whatever your thing is, give it a go.

You don’t have to change your entire life tomorrow. Just take that first step.

A little progress update on The Piper of Hull.

Things are moving along very nicely, and today I’ve officially made it into Act II. ✍️

I’m having an absolute blast writing this one. Taking one of the world’s most famous folk tales and pulling it apart, twisting it into something much darker, and then putting it back together in my own way has been ridiculously good fun. 😈

I’m still keeping most of what happens firmly under wraps for now…

But I thought I’d give you a little glimpse at the manuscript.

Things are moving along very nicely, and today I’ve officially made it into Act II. ✍️

Today is obviously about launching Blackwood Lay-by, but there was one page I wanted to share that has nothing to do with sales, rankings or reviews.

This book is dedicated to my dad and my grandad.

Neither of them will ever get to hold a copy, but both of them influenced this story in their own ways.

There are little pieces of memories, experiences and stories that eventually found their way into Blackwood Lay-by — some deliberately, and some that I probably didn’t even realise were there until afterwards.

So before anybody reaches Chapter One, they’re the first two people they’ll meet.

And that’s exactly where I wanted them.

I miss them both every day.

This one’s for you both. ❤️
